Transparent Gift Basket

The new theme over at SUO Challenges is Boxes, Bags, & Baskets. With Easter coming up, I decided to go with a basket for my design team entry. This transparent basket is so simple to make, and can be filled with all kinds of gifts.

basket

I started by making a cylinder with a 4 1/2" x 11 3/4" window sheet, using sticky tape to adhere the sides. It is important to overlap the size only the width of the sticky tape. This will not only hide the sticky tape, but it will be the perfect diameter for the base you will create.

Cut two circles, using the Circles framelits (the two largest that are not scalloped), and glue the smaller circle to the center of the larger circle. Clip every quarter inch and fold the sides up.

Add sticky tape to the bottom of the cylinder. Set the cylinder inside the base and fold all the tabs up to adhere. Adhere a 1/2" x 12" strip of Designer Series Paper with sticky strip around the bottom to hide the tabs, and another around the top edge.

Next add a window sheet handle. I decorated mine with a piece of shredded  burlap ribbon, before attaching with brads. I left a couple of the threads in the ribbon to hold all the little pieces together. Make sure the ends of the handle finish on the inside of the basket.

I finished off my basket with a mixture of Wild Wasabi card stock, cut into 1/4" strips, crimped and crinkled. I also adding some clippings of burlap ribbon to tie in with the handle.

Power outage for her means fun for us!

Last week there was a terrible ice storm in a nearby area, where my daughter lives. Thousands of people lost power, and unfortunately she was one of them. After getting the news that the power may not be on for 5 days, she came home for a visit for a few days (bliss for mom!!).  Besides spending as much time as we could in the sun (the weather has been amazing since the storm!), we spent a little time in my stamp room, co-designing a card for the new SUO Challenges challenge; Pinks and Purples. Morgan and I decided to stick with pinks. Okay, maybe that part was me, because I LOVE pink!

Pink Balloon

We pulled out all the Stampin' Up! pinks and settled on these three; Melon Mambo, Strawberry Slush, and Pink Pirouette. We added interest with the Washi Tape from the Gingham Garden collection. Morgan came up with the idea to make the Washi balloon, and I love the way it turned out! I laid down the Washi tape on a piece of Very Vanilla card stock, aligning the pattern, and then punched it out with my circle punch. For the 'tie' I punched out a foot from the Owl Builder punch.
