Back to Backyard Basics

I made another quick Backyard Basics card. I love that Backyard Basics has coordinating framelits...it's awesome! It saves time, and my images are cut out perfect, every time!

I CASEd this card from Michelle Short from the Card Grotto, who made a very similar card with non-Stampin' Up! supplies.

I stamped the butterflies in StazOn ink, and colored them in using Blender Pens. For the two plain butterflies, I colored their wing tips with Basic Gray; the other I colored with Coastal Cabana and Pistachio Pudding.

Stampin' Supplies:
  • Stamps: *Backyard Basics (129255 wood/ 129258 clear), and Really Good Greetings (130330 wood/ 130333)
  • Paper: Whisper White card stock (100730) - 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", and 4" x 5 1/4"

Backyard Basics

Alicia came over to visit me last night, with an arm full of stamp sets! I was so excited to see Backyard Basics was one of them. As an added bonus, she also brought the coordinating framelits! Backyard Basics is a new stamp set I have been eyeballing, but I was not quite ready to add it to my collection, until now.

Side note: If you haven't noticed, I have a thing for Strawberry Slush! I love pink; I guess it kind of falls in the pink category.

This card was so quick to make, and I didn't have to cut out the butterfly! I have to admit, I need to work on my coloring techniques. I used the Aquapainter here, with Strawberry Slush ink.

Strawberry Dahlias

I was doing a little Google Image surfing, and came across a beautifully simple card by Alice Wertz. Although she did not use Regarding Dahlias, like I did here, I did CASE her idea of using the flower both on the background and as the focal image.

First I stamped the dahlia, several times, with Versamark ink onto Strawberry Slush card stock. Then I sprinkled on clear embossing powder, and heat set it. I stamped the image again, this time on Whisper White card stock, with Strawberry Slush ink. I used a Blender Pen to pick up ink from the lid of my ink pad, and outlined the outside of the flower, very lightly. The sentiment is from Four You.

Stampin' Supplies:
  • Stamps: Regarding Dahlias (130324 wood/ 130327 clear), and Four You (130535 wood/ 130538 clear)
  • Paper:
    • Strawberry Slush card stock (131295) - 5 1/2" x 8 1/2"
    • Whisper White card stock (100730) - 3" x 4 1/4"
  • Ink: Strawberry Slush (131178), Versamark (102283)
  • Tools and Accessories:
    • Clear Stampin' Emboss Powder (109130)
    • Heat Tool (129053)
    • Embossing Buddy (103083)
    • Blender Pen (102845)
    • Corner Rounder punch (119871)
    • Stampin' Dimensionals (104430)

Christmas in June

I found a clean sketch, which is right up my alley, at Freshly Made Sketches. I decided to go with a holiday theme;  on a hot day, it feels good to bust out some snowflakes!

Snowflake Soiree is, thankfully, one of six Christmas stamp sets that is still available (although not shown in the new catalog). I stamped Soft Sky and Island Indigo snowflakes onto Whisper White card stock, and trimmed it out with Glimmer Paper, a Faceted button, and rhinestones.

Stampin' Supplies:
  • Stamps: Snowflake Soiree (127922 wood/ 127925 clear), and Four the Holidays (retired)
  • Paper:
    • Soft Sky card stock (131203) 5 1/2" x 8 1/2"
    • Whisper White card stock (100730) 3 1/4" x 5 1/2"
    • Island Indigo card stock (122923) - 1/4" x 5 1/2"
    • Silver Glimmer Paper (124005) - 3/4" x 5 1/2" (punch then trim to thin strip)
  • Ink: Soft Sky (131181) and Island Indigo (126986)
  • Tools and Accessories:
    • Scallop Edge Border punch (119882)
    • Baker's Twine, Whisper White (124262)

Sweet Somethings

I have a couple sweet somethings to share with you today! One of them is a Create with Connie and Mary challenge card, and the other is a song that my DH wrote for me (you will not want to miss this one!!!).

Here is the sketch challenge; so fun and simple!

CCMC257

Here is my take on the sketch. I was in a Neapolitan mood, so I used Strawberry Slush, Very Vanilla, and Baked Brown Sugar for my color combo. Now I want to go get some ice cream!!

I used Apothecary Accents framelits for both die cut pieces. They screamed bakery to me, so I decided to add a cupcake. I should have shared this one on Pink Paper Bakery!
Here you can see the layers that I popped up on Dimensionals. I fussy cut the ribbon and the heart, but luckily, there is a coordinating punch for the cupcake!

Stampin' Supplies:
  • Stamps: Create a Cupcake (128520 wood/ 121982 clear)
  • Paper:
    • Strawberry Slush card stock (131295) - 5 1/2" x 8 1/2"
    • Very Vanilla card stock (101650) - 4" x 5 1/4"
    • Baked Brown Sugar card stock (131296)
  • Ink: Baked Brown Sugar (131174) and Strawberry Slush (131178)
  • Tools and Accessories:
    • Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine (113439)
    • Apothecary Accents framelits (127003)
    • Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder (117335)
    • Cupcake Builder punch (121807)
    • Very Vanilla seam binding ribbon (120999)
    • Stampin' Dimensionals (104430)

Okay, moving on to the next sweet something! I was working upstairs in my office, when I received an email from my husband, who was downstairs. Rewind a tad... there is a song that plays on the radio constantly, called Thrift Shop. You may or may not have heard it, but it's one of those songs you just can't get out of your head! If you do know the song, you will appreciate this a whole lot more. My husband throws a few lyrics from the song at me, nearly every day. I think he wants to get it stuck in my head so I can suffer (or enjoy) with him. Okay, back to the email. He rewrote the song with a paper crafting for a subject. I died laughing!!! At first I was just thinking how awesome it was, and then I was thinking how awesome he is! He is a true listener; I talk about Stampin' Up! products all the time, and he used several product names in the song! I love this man!!

Now, for the lyrics....

Hey, Honey! Can we go to convention?
 What, what, what, what...
 Bada, badada, badada, bada...

I'm gonna pop some tags
I got 20 girls in my downline
They're all excited, headed for convention
This is frickin' awesome

Walk into the swap like, "What up? I got a big box!"
I'm so pumped about this big pack of card stocks

Office is a mess again, video's I be publishin'
Cases are everywhere, my husband doesn't even care

Rollin' in, hella deep, we headin' to the mezzanine,
Dressed in all pink, 'cept for glitter all over me

Headed to my favorite town, girls lined up next to me
Crystal Effects stuck all over me... (Piiisssssss)

Choppin' it, embossin' it, 'bout to go and get some compliments
Wait.. where's my punch, damn - maybe put stars on it

Crazzzzies i be signin' up, Classes I be handlin'
No more boring, scoring, but wait... we don't laminate

Catalogs be showin' up, so don't start freaking out
Call all your stampin' friends they will surely help you out

I'm gonna pop some tags
I got 20 girls in my downline
They're all excited, headed for convention
This is frickin' awesome

Scenic Wetlands

I'm enjoying the new Wetlands stamp set! I love to color, and sponging a background gives me the same peaceful feeling as coloring.

The scene in this card was so easy to create! The important thing to remember with sponging is to start with a very light amount of ink, and slowly darken it to your liking.

I started with a piece of Very Vanilla card stock, and stamped the images in Early Espresso. Next I punched out an 1 3/8" circle from the tack side of a Post-it note, placed it over the sentiment, and sponged on some So Saffron ink (then remove circle for the magic!). Next I sponged on Soft Suede, along the bottom, then a little higher with Old Olive (very lightly). I filled up the remaining space with Soft Sky.

For the goose, I used my blender pen and went over the head and neck with more Espresso, leaving white space to keep the sketched look. Then I continued to use the blender pen to lightly color follow next to the lines on the body. I switched to Suede, and followed the lines again. Last I used a white paint marker to add some highlights in the body, and the remaining Vanilla space in the body.

Stampin' Supplies:
  • Stamps: Wetlands (126695 wood/ 126697 clear)
  • Paper:
    • Soft Sky card stock (131203) - 5 1/2" x 8 1/2"
    • Early Espresso card stock (119686) - 3 1/2" x 5 1/2"
    • Very Vanilla card stock (101650) - 3 1/4" x 5 1/2"
  • Ink:
    • Early Espresso (126974)
    • Soft Suede (126978)
    • Soft Sky (131181)

Patriotic theme challenge

Can you believe we are already nearing the halfway point of 2013?! It's crazy that Independence Day is just around the corner!

SUO Challenges has a patriotic theme starting today! This is my inspiration card that I submitted. I have no patriotic stamps, so I had to get creative and go with a red, white, and blue color scheme. I love the way it turned out! I hope you will join us at SUO Challenges with your patriotic themed card!

For the background, I used the Stripes embossing folder, and inked it up with a brayer and Real Red ink. I did end up having to use a sheet of copy paper, folded in half, as a shim so it would make nice clean red lines. Tip: If your ink isn't wanting to stick to the folder, ink it up first with a Versamark ink pad.

I chose patriotic words from Fabulous Phrases, stamped them on scraps, and cut them by hand. The 'forever thanks' is heat embossed with Whisper White embossing powder. I added silver Glimmer Paper stars, that I punched out using the Merry Mini punch pack.

Stampin' Supplies:
  • Stamps: Fabulous Phrases (128577 wood/ 120501 clear)
  • Paper:
    • Midnight Muse card stock (126843) - 5 1/2" x 8 1/2"
    • Whisper White card stock (100730) - 2 1/4" x 5 1/4"
    • Real Red card stock (102482)
    • Silver Glimmer Paper (124005)
  • Ink: Real Red (126949), Midnight Muse (126860), Basic Black (126980), Versamark (102283)
  • Tools and Accessories"
    • Big Shot Die-cutting machine (113439)
    • Stripes embossing folder (123128)
    • Merry Mini punch pack (126882)
    • Whisper White embossing powder (109132
    • Midnight Muse stitched satin ribbon (126847)

Stippled Blossoms, thinking of you

Stippled Blossoms is a stamp set that I always passed by in the catalog. I had a couple of customers purchase the set, and so I got to see it first hand, and that's all it took! Now, I own this set that is full of beautiful roses!

I used the card layout from Freshly Made Sketches as a starter point for this card. It didn't take long for my design to come together, once I had stamped the large roses and hand cut them.

I love how so many of Stampin' Up! ink colors are complimentary! The colors I used here are Calypso Coral and Crisp Cantaloupe.

Stampin' Supplies:
  • Stamps: Stippled Blossoms (132076 wood/ 126747 clear) and Express Yourself (130336 wood/ 130339 clear; hostess only set)
  • Paper:
    • Whisper White card stock (100730) - 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", and 3 1/4" x 4 1/4"
